A guest wants a quiet place to stay near the beach. They don't open a search page. They ask an AI assistant: "Where can I stay near the beach, with breakfast, for two people?"
The assistant names a few places. Is yours one of them?
If not, you are not alone. Many small B&Bs are missing from these answers. The good news: you can check, and you can improve your chances.
First, check where you stand
This takes ten minutes. Open two or three AI tools, and Google's AI answers too. Ask the questions a guest would ask. For example:
- "Best B&B in [your town]"
- "Where to stay in [your area] for a quiet weekend"
- "Is [your B&B name] a good place to stay?"
Write down:
- Are you named?
- Is what it says about you true? Right location, right rooms, right breakfast?
- Who is named instead of you?
Answers change from day to day, and from tool to tool. Don't read too much into one try. Look for what repeats.
Why you might be missing
AI tools do not know your B&B by magic. They rely on what they can find and read. Common reasons a B&B is missing:
- Your website says little. A few photos and a phone number is not much to go on. Say where you are, which rooms you have, what breakfast is like, who you welcome.
- Your details don't match. One address on your website, another on a listing, an old phone number somewhere else. That makes you harder to trust. See consistent details everywhere.
- You are only on the platforms. If the only place that describes you is a booking platform, the platform gets the credit.
- Your Google profile is thin. Many answers draw on Google information. See your Google Business Profile.
- Few reviews, or none recent. Guest reviews are a strong signal of a real, active place. See how reviews affect ranking.
What helps, in plain steps
- Write a clear page about your B&B. In plain words, as if telling a guest: where you are, how far to the beach or the town, how many rooms, what is included, who it suits (couples, families, surfers, walkers). Use the words guests use.
- Answer the questions guests ask. Check-in time, parking, pets, breakfast, how to get there. A short FAQ page works well. These are the questions AI tools get asked too.
- Keep your details the same everywhere. Name, address, phone, opening times, website. On your site, Google, and every listing.
- Complete your Google Business Profile. Photos, description, hours, link to your site. Keep it fresh.
- Tell search tools what your page is about. Structured data, also called schema, is a hidden label that says "this is a B&B, at this address, with these rooms". See schema markup for small business. Your web designer can add it.
- Make the site fast and easy to read. If a tool can't read your pages, it can't use them. See how to improve website speed.
- Ask happy guests for a review. Politely, after the stay.
- Get mentioned by others. A local guide, a tourism page, a nearby business that links to you. Real mentions, not bought ones.
What nobody can promise
Be careful with anyone who guarantees a place in AI answers. These tools change often, and nobody outside them controls what they say. What you can do is make your B&B easy to find, easy to understand and easy to trust. That helps in AI answers, and in normal Google search as well.
Check again in a few weeks
Make it a habit. Ask the same questions again every month or two. Write down what changed. Small steps add up.
